I assume the "Matt" in the Blues category is Matt Cox...? When will voting begin for these nominees?

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDr Dan

For Jes Winter it is "Treat the BAD GOOD" not "Treat the GOOD BAD" big difference!!! :)

Again, visual and Performance are not listed. At least not on the home page. Anyone know who got nominated???

October 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTodd

Only musicians are nominated. Visual artists are secondary. [kidding!]

Wow. I hadn't really noticed before, but looking at past awards, there are a ton of music and performing awards given every year, but only a handful visual arts awards...

As noted on the front page of this website, OEAA is looking for board members with a heavy emphasis on Visual Arts. Maybe this is could be seen as an opportunity to bring more Visual/Performing Arts categories (and ultimately artists) to the forefront? It appears OEAA is opening the door... someone just needs to walk thru? Just sayin'...

In the Jazz/Easy Listening category, I believe "Second Helpings" should be Mary Carrick & Todd Brooks as that is the name of the group. Second Helping is the name of one of their popular acts.

how do we vote for the artists?

Ummmm... What?????

I believe a lot of bands are on these lists because their friend's are on this committee.
Sorry but you missed about 10 really great new act in the area.... and no one knows who Daniel Christian is....

Who likes " LANDING ON THE MOON"????? Go to one of there shows... no one will be there and second they didn't win the "Battle of Bands @ The Waiting Room to play MAHA (but they did hush hush) I believe it had to do with a member from Little Brazil being in the band. Everyone who attended that show knows who should of won...

No wonder most bands either tour out of Omaha or move away to get noticed, because this little local scene click is only tuning in on their friends and not allowing strangers good or bad to be heard....

Some of the bands deserve to be on these lists... but a lot don't.... Way to hurt the scene..OME's

WEAK! Most of these artists are garbage... Some of them deserve to be there, most of them not.... Way to go Omaha. Hiding the true talent we have, and pushing them far away from this town...

My goodness... Is this what its about? Tearing other artists down? Keep some perspective. This was a FAN POLL with the assistance of the OEA board. This isn't a beauty contest or favoritism. No one is saying these artists are any better than the ones that are not represented here. OEA has ZERO agenda here. They are simply trying provide a forum for artists who choose to participate and believe in what OEA is attempting to do for the community. Many great artists in the local area choose not to participate. That is fine. It doesn't make them any better or any worse than those who are represented. Some artists may be very young and/or unheard of. Maybe they haven't built the fan base that would help them in getting recognized by OEA. Again.. that makes them no better or worse than those represented here. The OEA does not have the resources to evaluate every single artist (music, poetry, performing/visual, etc etc) so some may get overlooked. There is nothing nefarious going on here. Take this for what it is. If you are an artist or know of an artist that deserves recognition, that use your energy in a positive way and bring it to the attention of the OEA. If you choose not to participate, then no sense in coming on their website and tearing down those who enjoy participating.

Just sayin'.....

Responding to last comment....

Bands don't know how to contact the OEA, I know because people are always asking around town how to contact them and how to get on they're showcases...

Second: If you're going to go around and give out awards to bands do your homework on the scene.....

Thunder power???? Really???

October 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTo: My Goodness...

Seems like on the very site you are posting your complaints has a list of board members as well as a P.O. Box, an email address, a twitter page, a Facebook, page, and a MySpace page... But yeah, I can imagine they can be hard to reach.... and seriously, tearing down bands only makes you look like a malcontent.

i think it's certainly worth noting that the nomination and selection process for the oea's is far from transparent. if the about page included a set schedule (eg., this is when public nominations open annually, this is when they close, this is how different categories select winners, this is who gets a vote in that winner-selecting), that would only strengthen the award's legitimacy, yeah?

October 20, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterk.

I think those are very good suggestions, k. Very constructive. Hopefully OEA will take those into account.
